This is how we went Nick Martin last year in the 3rd round and even Upton Stout was draft at least a round too early in terms of maximizing value and the players we passed on. Could have had Xavier Watts and Upton Stout in the late 4th or 5th.

Justin Joly at TE on the other hand at 92 .. while not the pick I'd make wouldn't be mad.

I would happily take him late in the 3rd. He has a bit of a Kittle thing going on where Stanford didn't use him to his full ability as a receiver, which is something he's very capable of along with being an outstanding blocker.

A guy who is that explosive and who can run routes like that at almost 270 pounds is wild, ideal performer inside the red zone and at the goal line.

4.7 40 is solid for a big f**ker.

Only thing making me nervous about him are those trex arms. How the hell does a 6'6 dude have arms under 31 inches?

Most of the top TE's didn't do the agility drills.

Cuevas is 245 pounds, Dinkins is 251, Roush is almost 270.

Top 5 NFL combine tight ends in 3-cone

Sam Roush, Stanford: 7.08

Khalil Dinkins, Penn State: 7.28

Josh Cuevas, Alabama: 7.37

Marlin Klein, Michigan: 7.42

If he runs in the 4.5s then we'll talk. #92 is too early for this dude and I like him a lot. I liked Upton Stout a lot last year... in the 5th.

Other TEs too like Klare and Jolly and others have been projected in that range. Is Roush better than Klare or Jolly? Maybe I dunno.

Also we just have too many other priorities to address to go TE in the 3rd rd unless taking an elite one like Sadiq in the 1st if he somehow fell.

#92 should have guys like Kilgore, Clark, McClellan, Rutledge, Lew, Devin Moore, Law, Durant, Derrick Moore, Hurst, Thompson, etc.

If we took Roush over any of the above I'd be super bummed and console myself with at least I like Roush the player - just like I did last year with Stout but that was made up for by the CJ West pick right after so I rationalized we picked West and Stout in opposite slots.

Roush at 138 would be fine and more appropriate value and great value at 171.

Hope we sign Likely now so Lynch doesnt do something dumb like last year in the 3rd with Martin and Stout

You passing on Kilgore or Clark or any of those others above for Roush at #92?

127 at the absolute earliest and Im good with it.

We need to trade down from 27 and get 2-3 extra selections in the 90-120 range. Then we have the luxury of going with a TE we really like. Funny thing is I really like Roush but not good value in the 3rd imo with the other guys there and the less pressing position he plays. But we know Lynch doesn't care about value so

Stressing over where we take a player is nonsense. They are all at ZERO until they are in training camp and start going against NFL vets. It doesn't matter where they were picked in the draft. All that matters is if they fit what the coaches were hoping to get out of them. One would think the getting Purdy would have put the kibosh on where a player is taken in the draft.
Anchoring bias. People can't let early evaluations out of their heads. They hold on like a monkey to a coconut. Just like the actual draft vs the consensus of mock drafts.

Oddly short arms for his height and hand size. Not a huge deal at TE, just sticks out to me.

Yep. 5th percentile alligator arms. For reference, Kittle measured 33 1/8'' at the combine.
