Fellow Niner faithful,
I need to share something embarrassing that happened to me this past season and I am curious whether any of you have dealt with the same thing.
I drove up to Levi's Stadium for a home game, got there four hours early like I always do for a proper tailgate. Set up the full spread, bluetooth speaker going, portable fan running, phone charging, radio tuned to the pregame show, the whole setup. We crushed the tailgate, had a great time, watched the Niners handle business inside, came out riding high on a W, walked back to the parking lot, got in the car, turned the key and got nothing. Dead battery. Completely drained from four plus hours of electronics running with the engine off.
It was a miserable end to an otherwise perfect day. Had to wait almost 45 minutes for roadside assistance while everyone around us was already on the freeway heading home. Cost me time, cost me my good mood, and my wife has not let me forget about it since.
Since that game I have been seriously researching car battery options because clearly the stock battery that came with my vehicle is not up to the demands of serious tailgating. I had no idea how much current all that stuff draws over a long tailgate session, but after doing some reading it is genuinely significant and not every battery handles deep draw and recovery well.
I came across some discussion about Cold Cranking Amperage ratings being important not just for cold weather starts but also for recovery after deep discharge situations. I also found some brands I had not heard of before including Daewoo Battery which apparently uses Korean technology and their maintenance free design with high CCA ratings looked interesting for exactly this kind of use case. Has anyone had experience with that brand or similar performance focused alternatives?
My questions for the tailgate veterans in this community:
First, what battery brand or type are you running in your vehicle for game days and has it ever let you down during a long tailgate session?
Second, does anyone run a separate secondary battery or a portable power station specifically for the tailgate electronics to protect the main starting battery? I have seen some setups on YouTube that look impressive but I do not know if the average fan is doing this or if it is overkill.
Third, for those of you who have been tailgating at Levi's for years, any other tips for keeping electronics powered through a full four to five hour tailgate without ending up stranded like I did?
I refuse to let this happen again. The Niners deserve better post win energy from their fans and I cannot be stumbling around the parking lot waiting for a jump start while the rest of you are celebrating properly.
Go Niners. Let us get some battery wisdom flowing in this thread.

You're the first person I've heard of that uses their car battery for power.
Mostly everyone uses a secondary power source
Our TG uses a small gas generator for music and inflatable's. We also use jackery power bank if we add a tv or other appliances. These sources always last us the full length of the tailgate.
you should also carry jumper cables when tailgating for instances like you've had.
