if Hobbs is best in the slot, I wonder if they would try Stout at safety.

I was hoping for the reverse.
Have Hobbs at Safety to team up with Sigle. Both elite quickness/speed, and they can move down to contain the edge and tackle/stuff the run...
And with their speed the can quickly drop back and cover, like we used to with Tartt. Giving misleading pre-snap looks.

Ok with that also. i thought of that angle first. He has some skills to help at safety. I kept seeing where they said Hobbs was best at nickel and close to the line of scrimmage so i wondered if they go this route instead. i know Stout played safety in college too. i think one of them moves and fills the safety need which I was hoping we'd address. .

Seems like a decent pickup if he can stay healthy

Can't tell if this is a depth piece or not… apparently he was good with the Raiders but garbage with the Packers. If he plays slot then it's kind of redundant to Stout.
Can't believe I'm unironically saying this but can he play safety?

The Packers were asking him to play differently and he wasn't comfortable.

Cause we all know ONE play "single handedly" in the most team sport in team sports there is; is the reason for wins and losses right? Quite the contradiction when people are defending 49er players over the years![]()
Whatever; I'm done hijacking Hobbs thread. Kid is a dawg and I'm happy we got him. I really hope they open the competition up for him to take the #2 or #3 spot
One play? He completely misplays the ball against Ricky then doesn't stick to Tonges on a broken play in the end zone. Two biggest plays on the drive given up because of huge mental gaffes. That's about as single handedly as one player can get.
Hoobs is solid depth. Wish we could get someone that could really push Green without being prone to extreme stupidity.

I don't understand the hate on green? We had 0 pass rush last year. We put our corners in brutal situations all year and they played well relative to the situation. No one is going to have a huge year without a pass rush, that's just 101 football.
im not ready to give up on him. I like him a lot and we need to have a healthy defense to really understand what he is. Last season was an awful season to be a CB here, IMO.

If you are referring to me about the "hate" on Green; I don't hate him, I think he's okay, but I don't think he's that good and could be upgraded. Why is that hate? Stout was a rookie and I love the way he plays, the passion and grit, but he also wasn't very good in coverage. You wanna know what else is football 101? Coverage sacks. Our secondary didn't help our DL in that area all the same. I assume you don't subscribe too or have seen much of the All-22 last season? Our secondary was atrocious, the only one who was consistently good was Demo. Our safeties, Mustapha included, we all know coverage is not their strong suit. They didn't provide much help for our corners or our linemen lol.
All that said; I do agree with you that it's a bit unfair to judge anything or anyone with all the injuries we dealt with last season. Last season was an awful season to be a CB with us no doubt, but it was also an awful season to be a defensive linemen with us when our CBS constantly got beat like a drum so fast. I'm honestly not sure a healthy Bosa would've done anything to prevent much of that. Stout in particular had many MANY growing pains throughout the season and Green had a bunch of coverage lapses that wasn't seen on the TV view.
I'm not giving up on Green; year three is where the judgment is kind of finalized for me on whether they're someone I'd like to keep moving forward or move on from. So we'll see….but I will tell you guys, don't be surprised if one of, if not both, Green and Stout is not in the starting lineup this season with a new DC and hopefully more additions to this group. The tape is not good

He plays too much outside of the system. We all saw Kyle chew him out in the middle of a playoff game for doing his own thing.

This def seems to be the theme. Good for us we have great luck with players staying healthy.

That may be true but they don't have enough depth to be in position to move on.

Good pickup given the salary. Just really curious how he'll fit with Stout.
Stout is clearly a nickel.
Curious if they see him as a safety
