Puni, Stout, Nick Martin are the 3 most recent & I think all of them will be good. Fred was a 3rd rounder so got to give them major props on that one.

The sad reality is most 3rd rounders suck. Case in point i just looked at the 2020 3rd round draft class to see how many players made it and i only see a handful of impact players. Most are just role players. I think we as fans and even the NFL over value draft picks. I've said this earlier, if you can trade for an impact player for a 3rd or 4th round pick you need to pull the trigger.

I mean 7 players in over 40 years is not very well lol. It's probably on par with most of the league.

I doubt many other teams have drafted 4 players in the 3rd round that ended up in the HOF.
Some people are marking us down because we gave up a 3rd instead of a 4th or lower. But the reality is that for us, we do better in the later rounds. So it helpes us. Get rid of 3rd round voodoo -- moody, sermen, davis-price, Hurd, Beatherd, Danny Grey, Latu --- cmon that is pretty serious nausea right there. So yes, pass along the s**tty pick voodoo to Dallas. Poetic justice right? And take their stud DI pass rusher. win win win. And we draft the next kittle in round 4. book it.

This was my thought as well
Osa is explosive and strong, but he is also athletic. I think him being lighter actually helps him do his thing. He is actually only about 20 pounds heavier than M. Williams. It's almost like having a DE at DT similar to A. Donald. Not saying he is Aaron Donald, but being lighter can help if the idea is to get to the QB ala John Randall.

And he's 27 years old. Much different than the Hargrave acquisition where he was exiting his prime.

49ers traded Trey Lance to the Cowboys for a 4th. Cowboys traded Osa to the 49ers for a 3rd.

I am not worried about the third as long as he is good. I will just say Lynch has spent a tremendous amount of assets on the DL and it was terrible last year. Which is why it was still one of if not our biggest need. Better have gotten it right this time.

bosa got injured and williams got injured. that's why it was bad. it's not a mystery

Williams wasn't looking that great before he got hurt imo. And we spent two other picks on DT just last year. Kinlaw, Hargrave, Ford. Just saying, We spent a lot on DL. And it continues to be a problem. Can't afford any more mistakes. Hoping they finally got it right with this.

You do understand that it takes at least a year for defensive linemen to get acclimated to the pro game, right? Aldon Smith was a very rare exception.

Aldon Smith ... one of my favorite Niners I ever watched and just loved how he got after the QB. Might have gone down as a top 3 defensive player EVER if he didn't have his issues and was a Warner type character. Might have been better than Lawrence Taylor in the end...

Will always lament not seeing how a full career of his would have looked like.

Sigh.

That's 6 people with say...we'll go back to the 70s...60 years worth of drafts? Maybe a little less? That's actually horrible

Also, let's factor in the people actually making the decision with the third round pick in 2026 draft.

They have exactly 1 hit since 2017 in the third round, Fred Warner. Potentially Dominick Puni, although he was disappointing last season ( I think he was injured).

2017: Ahkello Witherspoon (#66), C.J. Beathard (#104)2018: Fred Warner (#70), Tarvarius Moore (#95)2019: Jalen Hurd (#67)2020: None2021: Trey Sermon (#88), Ambry Thomas (#102)2022: Tyrion Davis-Price (#93), Danny Gray (#105)2023: Ji'Ayir Brown (#87), Jake Moody (#99)2024: Dominick Puni (#86)

I mean he's an ideal build for what we want as a one gapping penetrator. He's probably around 285 now, but he's leverage and get off are pretty impressive. Dude has a 84" wingspan at 6-2.

I wanted SF to get him in FA last yr, but he never made it.

. I've missed out on quite a bit. Saw your approval of this acquisition. If you like it, then I like it.
