I'm not saying I'm on the Breece Hall in FA train. But I'm also not saying I'm not on it.
We desperately need to work in other backs. We also need players who can bring some juice. He also loves him some Purdy. He's still young and wants to go somewhere he can win.

I'd take Hall over next seasons CMC.

He would be a big pickup, but it's a pipedream with CMC's contract on the books. The 49ers are stuck with CMC, and they can't get rid of him because the Yorks aren't going to sign off on racking up more dead money.

Agree they won't do anything with CMC. But dead money is just cash that was already paid but did not yet hit the cap. So the money already left the bank account and it was never coming back even if the player was still on the team. Dead money won't be a significant factor this offseason like it was in 2025.

I was firmly on the trade CMC for Breece + a piece before last season, and I am firmly on the Breece hall train this season with him a free agent

Move CMC to more of a hybrid role.

Sounds as if CMC would welcome the move…he'd make a fantastic slot receiver/3rd down back.

I'm well aware of what dead money is. What you're missing is that the Yorks aren't going to enable more bad decision-making, which in reality is what large amounts of dead money really is: bad financial decision making. The 49ers just redid CMC's deal, so the Yorks aren't going to add another big RB contract to the books. They're going to tell Shanny and Lynch that they better make-do with what they've already invested in and draft better.
the draft pumps out running backs every single year. There's no reason the 49ers should need to sign a big free agent to improve there. Draft better, coach better and actually play them.

This. This. This. If I were York I'd question why would we need to sign Breece Hall when we drafted TDP, Trey Sermon, Isaac Guerendo, and Jordan James. Not to mention the draft picks needed to trade for CMC. People keep talking about yhe Lance trade. That was one mistake where I understand the reasoning and the front office should be forgiven. But the amount of sink capital into the RB position and we still only have CMC to speak of.
As you stated, we need to draft and coach better. And I'll add use who is on the roster.
The team needs to show they can draft and develop the next generation of great players. If they cannot, then it may be time to consider some serious changes. Between the 2024 - 2026 drafts, I'd argue we will need 3 stars, plus a few other good players in contributors.

A better question is why Lynch and Kyle drafted TDP, Sermon, Guerrendo and James in addition to a whole slew of receivers that haven't panned out.
A magnifying glass needs to be placed over the ENTIRE way in which the Niners draft from A to Z.
When we can't find quality players thru our drafting process, trades or FA are our only option to get better.

I wonder what Breece Halls asking price would be? 9ers would be in for a bidding war with a lot of teams, KC being one of them.

He's going to get paid! You can add every team that doesn't have a legitimate running back. I could see the Texans chasing him. He will probably have at least six teams seriously looking at him.

KC is currently $50+ million over the cap with the least amount of room. So good luck to them.

Long shot we make an offer he would accept. We more likely to land a guy like Algiers
