As someone who has watched Women's basketball for years, but also understand basic economics, they have gotten more than a fair share since the inception of the league. You cant demand higher salaries when the league hemorrhages money every year.

These ladies better thank their lucky stars for Caitlin Clark or the league would have folded decades ago.

I was listening to Rich Eisen a couple days ago and he had a guest on talking about this, who's also an economist. He was basically saying the the owners aren't really losing any money on league bc of the massive tax write offs they can do, since they are showing a loss on paper.

Interesting. But even as a tax write off, they arent making money. They are probably not losing as much as it seems, but the league hasnt turned a profit in 3 decades.

those losses are nothing compared to appreciation of the asset. look at the average team valuation today. after this latest TV deal, it's now at like a 20x increase from 10 years ago.

I agree with this. But what the average valuation today, with the TV deal, doesnt change what I said about years past.

ehh you said "basic economics" while saying the ladies shouldn't demand higher salaries, seemingly not understanding how the league can "lose money" yet become way more valuable. and the valuations were on an upward trajectory even before the TV deal.

Right but these owners are still not making money as of now. The NBA is still subsidizing a lot of the league. These owners still want to recoup money lost. Investors still want to see their money back from years of losing money.

Obviously the TV deal changes things dramatically. The original post I was replying to was not about the now. It was basically claiming the players were owed this money for a long time....which is what I disagreed with.
