3rd rounder is the perfect pick to give up for him because Niners absolutely suck in that round. Moody, Cam Latu, Ty Davis Price, Danny Gray, Trey Sermon, Ambry Thomas, Jalen Hurd, Ahkello Witherspoon, Beathard, Jayair Brown, Tarvarious Moore. Puni, Stout, Nick Martin are the 3 most recent & I think all of them will be good. Fred was a 3rd rounder so got to give them major props on that one.

The sad reality is most 3rd rounders suck. Case in point i just looked at the 2020 3rd round draft class to see how many players made it and i only see a handful of impact players. Most are just role players. I think we as fans and even the NFL over value draft picks. I've said this earlier, if you can trade for an impact player for a 3rd or 4th round pick you need to pull the trigger.

We (49ers) have historically done very well in this round:

Joe Montana (HOF)
Fred Warner (Future HOF)
T.O (HOF)
Frank Gore (Future HOF)
John Taylor
Bowman

I mean 7 players in over 40 years is not very well lol. It's probably on par with most of the league.

I doubt many other teams have drafted 4 players in the 3rd round that ended up in the HOF.

Yep, I stand corrected. We are the only team with four. Other teams have drafted two. According to chatgpt

This was a good move for the 49ers for today's team. He fills a need that this team has and is proven at that.

good to see you back on here, thl.

. I've missed out on quite a bit. Saw your approval of this acquisition. If you like it, then I like it.

can we draft a 3rd round pic to be a productive day 1 starter on the d-line? probably not, this a very good signing, I liked him at ucla

Osa is explosive and strong, but he is also athletic. I think him being lighter actually helps him do his thing. He is actually only about 20 pounds heavier than M. Williams. It's almost like having a DE at DT similar to A. Donald. Not saying he is Aaron Donald, but being lighter can help if the idea is to get to the QB ala John Randall.

I mean he's an ideal build for what we want as a one gapping penetrator. He's probably around 285 now, but he's leverage and get off are pretty impressive. Dude has a 84" wingspan at 6-2.

I wanted SF to get him in FA last yr, but he never made it.

Plus you can't spell Bosa without Osa. Love the names lol

Bosa and Osa

Another good way to look at this is this is the 3rd round pick everyone wanted to trade for a Jaelen Phillips/jermaine Johnston rental last trade deadline. This looks a lot better

I will always prefer an established proven player over a draft pick unless there's a money issue. This mornng I heard that only 41% of first round picks the last 5 years have signed a 2nd contract. That means over half didn't live up to expectations or the teams were in a bad cap situation.

He's also reasonably cost controlled. He's not dirt cheap but that is a contract we can live with if he's good

And he's 27 years old. Much different than the Hargrave acquisition where he was exiting his prime.

With the team having drafted multiple defensive tackles last year who already look like at least serviceable contributor, and potentially more, those players being on rookie contracts creates important flexibility. Osa's age and contract timing fit well within that structure. You don't want all of your defensive tackles hitting contract years at the same time, and Osa helps stagger that timeline. In an ideal scenario, by the time Osa's deal is nearing its end, Collins and/or West will have developed into the front-line starter the team hopes they can be, allowing for a smooth transition and sustained continuity along the interior defensive line.

As discussed also on this forum, Osa's skillset appears to complement the current defensive tackles well from a football standpoint (pass rusher-run stuffer mix). We'll see when the games start, but on paper this looks like a great trade for both teams and a good find for the 49ers.

I was about to type the same thing...well and yall forgot Romanowski.

49ers have 34-ish pro-bowl appearances from the 3rd round.....

having said all that....Osa reminds me of pierce holt
Sonia this guy solely a 4-3 DT?

49ers are the best team at drafting in rounds 3, 5, 7
49ers are the WORST team at drafting in rounds 1, 2, 4, 6
