CHICAGO FIRE EXTEND UNBEATEN RUN

Chicago Fire have extended their unbeaten run in the MLS to seven matches.


They defeated Atlanta United 2-0 courtesy of goals from Luis Solignac and NemanjaMikolic. The victory means the gap at the top of Eastern Conference has reduced to just a point.

In other games, Montreal Impact ended the winning run of Sporting Kansas City at home when MatteoMancosuscored a late effort to cancel GersoFernandes 24th minute goal. The 1-1 draw dents the impressive run of Sporting who had won their last six games at home. Chris Duvall was sent off in that encounter.

FC Dallas crashed 2-0 in the hands of Portland Timbers. FanendoAdi netted twice as Timbers sealed victory.

In the second division, Premier League legend Didier Drogba scored a goal on his debut at Phoenix Rising FC. The former Chelsea striker also had an assist with over 7,000 fans watching. Phoenix defeated their opponents Vancouver Whitecaps reserve 2-1.

Drogba is featuring for the club as a striker and part owner. He is expected to play a year for Phoenix in the United Soccer League (USL) while joining the ownership group of the club. A group of investors acquired the club last year but they approached the Ivorian with the hope to launching an ambitious plan.

After exiting MLS side Montreal Impact last year, Drogba was still not done as he was weighing up offers. The 39-year old striker agreed to the move which will see him participate in boardroom decisions while playing and doing branding work for the club. It would be a means to transition into a club owner so the player was excited at the fresh challenge.
