New York Red Bulls (NYRB) would be hoping to regain form when they entertain Toronto FC in an MLS football clash at the Red Bull Arena in New York this weekend. GerhardStruber and his players take on the Reds at home with the hope of getting back to winning ways after their two-match winning run in all competitions ended with the 2-0 loss to hosts Charlotte FC in an MLS football duel a week ago. The result left New York Red Bulls in fourth position on the Eastern Conference standings.

New York Red Bulls missed out on the opportunity to close the gap on the teams at the top of the Eastern Conference with the disappointing result recorded against Charlotte FC. It was their second successive away defeat in MLS football this season after winning their first five away fixtures. They are now winless on the road in their last three attempts. New York Red Bulls were missing players due to injury or national team commitment and they conceded late in each half to succumb to a well deserved defeat at the hands of Charlotte FC. New York Red Bulls managed just seven shots during the game, which is very low as they ended a run of 10 or more shots in a game for 27 successive MLS football outings. Orlando City went on the road to Ohio to take on the Columbus Crew at Field, coming away with a 2-0 win and all three points on the road. It was a very well played match from Orlando City. Here are our five takeaways from the match.

No Pato, No Problem

Óscar Pareja made a few changes to the starting lineup against the Crew. Most significantly, there was no Alexandre Pato. In his stead, Benji Michel got the start, as did Kyle Smith in place of Ruan. While both players went the full 90 minutes, neither was as good as the players they replaced. However, neither made any costly mistakes, and gave Pato and Ruan a rest while contributing to a win on the road. Mexican forward Carlos Vela has had an injury-hit season over the past two seasons, but it looks like the Los Angeles FC (LAFC) star is finally back to his best after an injury-free start to the 2022 MLS season. His status as one of the best players in MLS football is not in doubt, but he has not been able to stay away from injuries over a long period of time over the course of the last two years. Vela had earlier taken MLS football by storm as he broke and set records until injury struck on a regular basis. MLS football has not been able to witness the best of Carlos Vela for some time until the start of the 2022 MLS season. LAFC fans would be hoping their star player can stay fit throughout the campaign as they have a better chance of achieving great things with him on the pitch rather than in the treatment room.

Vela and two others are presently leading the Golden Boot race for the 2022 MLS season with all three players on four goals apiece. The other two players on four goals in the MLS this season are FC Cincinnati star Brandon Vazquez and Columbus Crew player Lucas Zelarayan. Four other players are on three goals each and they are Sebastian Driussi of Austin FC, Jesus Ferreira of FC Dallas, Daniel Gazdagof Philadelphia Union and Lewis Morgan of New York Red Bulls.
