MLS TRIO MAKES GOLD CUP XI

Three MLS football stars were named in theGold Cup XI at the end of the latest edition this weekend. Two of the three players are from New England Revolution who are the Eastern Conference leaders. The third player is from Atlanta United.

United States goalkeeper Matt Turner and Canada winger Tajon Buchanan made the Gold Cup XI. The two MLS football stars are on the payroll of New England Revolution.

American goalkeeper Turner made 26 saves throughout the tournament and he was rewarded with the Best Goalkeeper Award. On his part, Buchanan won the Young Player Award. Buchananwas on target for Canada in the defeat to Mexico in the semifinals.

The third MLS football player on the Gold Cup XI is Atlanta United centre back Miles Robinson. Robinson was a regular in the United States team during the tournament.The Atlanta United player anchored the United States defencewhich recorded five clean sheets during the tournament. He was responsible for the winning goal in the final clashagainst Mexico.

Apart from the United States of America, Jamaica, Canada, Costa Rica, Qatar and Mexico were also represented on the team with a 4-3-3 formation.

The aforementioned MLS football trio were joined by defenders Edson Alvarez (Mexico), Shaq Moore (United States of America) and Damion Love (Jamaica) on the team.

Midfielders CelsoBorges (Costa Rica) and Hector Herrera (Mexico) were also on the Gold Cup XI alongside forwards Ali Almoez (Qatar), Rogelio Funes Mori (Mexico) and AkramAfif (Qatar).

Atlanta United centre back Miles Robinson was the hero for the United States of America who won the 2021 Gold Cup by beating rivals Mexico 1-0 at the end of extra time. The slim victory over the Mexicans ensured that the United States sealed a seventh Gold Cup title.

Mexico are still the most successful Gold Cup team with 11 titles.
