Miles Robinson was finally able to make his debut for the US national team after coming up as a substitute in the game against Mexico. Even though the US ended up losing 3-0 at the MetLife stadium, Robinson was extremely happy that his chance had finally come. The rivalry between the USA and Mexico is extremely intense and the Atlanta United defender was able to witness this rivalry from close quarters. Robinson claims that the perspective of the rivalry has changed quite remarkably ever since he stepped onto the pitch and witnessed it in person.
Robinson has been going through a strong season with Atlanta. Despite having a difficult start under Frank de Boer, the club have been able to make a lot of strides in the recent weeks. As the second placed team in the Eastern conference, there is a huge amount of respect on Atlanta. A large part of the success achieved by Atlanta under Frank de Boer over the last few months is down to Robinson, who was able to come on as a substitute for Walker Zimmerman, who picked up an injury. Seattle’s Jordan Morris has also been able to make an impact for the US national team.
Incredibly, Robinson was not the only player making his debut for the USMNT.SerginoDest, who features for Ajax, also made his debut. “Looking at the game on the bench, you obviously see it’s high-paced and things like that. So you’ve got to make sure you’re in tune to the game.Obviously it is a tough game to come into. Mexico is a great opponent, but we’ll have to look at the film and see how we can get better from it,” said Robinson. His strong performance against Mexico – despite the defeat – is likely to see him get his first start for USA sooner rather than later.
